Here are some tips to help you choose the right music for your wedding.

1. Choose a DJ or a Band

DJ will be the one controlling the playlist for your big day. This is an important detail to get right. You could have a DJ or a band, or a combination of both. While some prefer to have live music for the ceremony, others choose to have a DJ for their reception. Some prefer to have a DJ throughout the entire process. You can choose what you want, but it will impact your bottom line as well as your song choice. Remember that DJs will allow you to play in many different genres while bands may stick to one style.

2. Get inspiration

You can start your search by searching for musical inspiration. You can watch wedding videos on YouTube, rent some rom-coms, or search Spotify to find love playlists. You might be surprised at the hidden gems that you didn’t know about.

3. Get familiar with the basics

Before you start searching for ideas on Spotify or iTunes, it’s important to understand the basics of wedding music in Sydney. Every major song should be chosen to suit the mood. You’ll need something romantic to match your walk down the aisle. You’re free to do whatever you like, but you don’t have to follow the rules.

4. Get started with the biggest songs

Before you start to create your playlist, you should begin at the beginning. This is where you will need to have a list of all the songs that you are going to use. There are many things to consider, from the processional and recessional at the ceremony to your reception‘s first dance and cake cutting. Start by identifying the most important songs and then start to build your playlist.

5. Consider your wedding style

Your wedding music doesn’t have to be the same as your style. However, it can help keep things cohesive. Consider a playlist with oldies or heavy jazz frontier if you are hosting your wedding soiree in a historic Gatsby-style home. You can also add some country songs to a barn party. Florida Georgia Line and Dierks Bates have more than just a few love songs.

6. Combine

Variety is the spice in life. So take advantage of the many different styles and eras you can find music to use for your big day. This will not only please your guests from all generations, but it will also set the tone for the reception. Your guests will be able to have a conversation with their DJ or band while listening to slow, jazzy music. Then, the DJ will play Top 40 to get them dancing.

7. Make sure it sounds coherent

It’s important to have a diverse mix of songs, but your playlist shouldn’t sound jumbled or awkward. After you have decided which songs you want, you can arrange them in a way that makes sense. It’s not a good idea to surprise your guests by switching from Metallica to Etta James.

8. Try it out

Keep embarrassing moments to a minimum during your big day. Take your music for a spin before you commit to anything. To ensure everything is working, give the playlist a thorough run-through from beginning to end. You can practice dancing to your processional song, and then moving to your first dance song at your reception. Swap it out if you find something not right. There are many songs to choose.
