HOW TO WRITE YOUR WEDDING SPEECH

It can be almost as nerve-wracking to write and deliver your wedding speech as sharing your vows. Although your wedding speech can be a wonderful opportunity to show your appreciation to loved ones, it can also be daunting.

Good news! The good news is that there are simple steps to help you write memorable and engaging wedding speeches. For inspiration for your big day, check out our top tips for writing a wedding speech, including templates and wording samples.

Do You Need to Give a Speech on Your Wedding Day?

Perhaps you are wondering if you need to deliver a speech at your wedding. Isn’t this job best left to your proud parents and cheeky best man?

It can be tempting to let your friends and family deliver the speeches when so much is going on at your wedding. We think that a speech by the happy couple makes a wonderful addition to any wedding reception.

It’s as simple as that. There are many ways to express your gratitude for your favorite people in one place. It would be best to thank your guests for their support over the years, whether they travel or help with wedding preparations. You will undoubtedly have well-deserved words to thank the people in your life that are special to you. A heartfelt toast is a great way to express your appreciation.

What Should a Bride or Groom Include in a Wedding Speech?

To make sure your wedding speech is memorable, you should remember some essential points. You don’t need to make your wedding speech long or boring. You can make it short and sweet, formal, informal, funny, or serious. Your speech can be delivered together or individually.

It doesn’t matter what format you choose, and it is important to thank the right people and keep your guests engaged. These are some guidelines to help you create your wedding speech.

  • An introduction. It can be a formal or funny welcome.

  • Thank you. Your wedding speech should be a way to express your gratitude and thanks. These should be included:
    • We want to thank all guests who have traveled.
    • We want to thank everyone who attended.
    • Special thanks to your family members who helped with the wedding preparations, such as your parents, siblings or bridal party.

  • Lighthearted anecdotes. Here you can share a story or two about your relationship. This could be either a humorous story or a sweet one, depending on how you speak. Here are some ideas:
    • How did you meet?
    • When you realized they were “the one”,
    • Your proposal story
    • The funniest memories you share
    • A memorable adventure shared

  • Expressions of affection. Take the time to express your affection to your partner. Talk about what you love about them, their best qualities and your future hopes and dreams.

  • A toast. End the speech with a toast. If you deliver your speech together, a toast is made to your partner.

or

“Hello everyone! I can now deliver the speech I wrote this morning while sipping champagne!

or

“Hi everyone. Before I get started, I wanted to toast some very important people I know you will meet throughout the evening. Without them, this event would not be possible. “Here’s to our bartenders!”

Words to show appreciation:

“First, I want to say a big thank you to everyone for being here. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful group of family and friends. It is a great feeling to be surrounded by our favorite people.

A few people are particularly worthy of special mention. To our loved ones who have traveled interstate or internationally – [ mention guests who have traveled or the various locations people have visited from]. We are grateful that you made an effort to come and join us. It wouldn’t be the right thing without you!

Also, I wanted to thank everyone who helped me plan this day. Without your support and generosity, we couldn’t have achieved this.
